2010 RIBA Awards / Scotland's Shortlist Exhibition

Venue:
Access Gallery, Level 2, The Lighthouse
Date:    21 May - 14 Aug '10

In March the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland announced Scotland’s shortlist of 16 buildings for the RIBA Awards, the largest ever submission to these national awards. The result is a fantastic list of very varied projects and geographical spread, including a masterplan, housing, major conservation work, hospital and education provision and even a distillery. At a time when life has been challenging for the architectural profession and construction industry these projects truly demonstrate that good architecture can have a huge positive impact on peoples' lives and Scotland's economy.

An exhibition in collaboration with Architecture + Design Scotland’s Access to Architecture programme.

TRAM SPOTTING / TRAIN STOPPING

Venue: Schop Gallery, 36 St Mary's Street,
              Edinburgh EH1 1SX
Date:    10 August - 10 September, Mon-Sat
             10am - 6pm

This group exhibition showcases a number of provocative proposals from a select group of participants under the curatorial direction of Oliver Chapman and Mark Cousins. Using drawings, models and images the exhibition looks at familiar places; the Picardy Place roundabout at the end of York Place in Edinburgh and the site of the new train station in Galashiels. It demonstrates that the route of the tram and the train can act as a catalyst and make real improvements to the existing street context and architecture.
